Opening Day in D5: The Pumpkin Patch of Hunters

Opening Day in D5: The Pumpkin Patch of Hunters

Opening day of D5 deer season was a full-on pumpkin patch. Everywhere you looked, orange jackets, vests, and hats filled the hills, trails, and ridges. Spotting deer was tricky with so many hunters around, but that’s part of what makes opening day so memorable. The chaos, the energy, and the shared excitement of being out there.

Hunting has definitely gotten more popular over the years, which means the easy spots are crowded and you really have to put in the miles. These days, you need to hike at least five miles beyond the trail to find some solitude and give yourself a better chance at game. Even with the added effort, there’s nothing like being part of it, breathing in the crisp morning air, and soaking in the sights and sounds of the season.

D5 didn’t disappoint, and despite the crowds, the challenge of getting out there makes the day feel earned, exciting, and totally worth it.
