Real Use Case: The Colter and Reed Go Elk Hunting

One of my favorite things about starting Grit knives is seeing where they end up.

I can spend hours on Grit, packing orders, and getting it out the door, but there’s nothing quite like seeing one of those knives back in the field, covered in the evidence of actually being used.

This is one of those stories.

Kolter recently sent me an awesome photo of an archery bull elk he harvested, with two Grit Knives along for the job, a Colter and a Reed. He was sitting in a clearing when the bull walked right out and started feeding. About a 50-yard quartering-to shot, and the bull only went another 50 yards. That’s a pretty damn good day in the mountains.

The only knives he had in his pack were the Colter and the Reed, with the Reed riding in his pocket as his everyday mountain knife. Both ended up getting put to work. that’s the part I love.

When I started Grit Knives, I wanted to make quality, affordable tools for people who actually use them. Not something that needs to sit in a safe. Knives that can go into a pack, ride in your pocket, get dirty, and get sharpened.

Seeing a customers like Kolter take them into the mountains and put them to work on a bull elk is about as good of a product review as I could ask for. Kolter told me he was impressed with both knives and thanked me for making great gear.
